James A. Marx is a transactional lawyer who focuses his practice on representing clients with real estate and corporate deals, structuring and governance issues. James is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as a specialist in Real Estate Law, and he has over 30 years of experience at large national law firms and at his own firm in handling complex and simple real estate and corporate transactions – structuring, advising, and representing foreign and U.S. sellers, buyers, large and small financial institutions, private and portfolio lenders, investors, and developers. James has been recognized for more than 15 years as one of the top attorneys in Florida by several organizations and publications, including Super Lawyers, Florida Trend, the Miami Herald, and South Florida Legal Guide.

On a National level, James is the Chairman of the American Bar Association (ABA) Mortgage Lending Committee, is the incoming Chairman of the ABA Single Family Housing Committee, and he serves and as a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Mortgage Attorneys (ACMA).

James is also one of only a few attorneys in the State of Florida that actively participates and for many years has been appointed member of the Executive Council of the Real Property Section of the Florida Bar and the Executive Council of the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar, providing James with extensive depth in his practice areas. He participated on the Florida Limited Liability Company (LLC) Drafting Committee (2009-2013), adopting important legislation, is currently working with the LLC Series Task Force, and has authored the lead article for the subject of working with LLCs in Real Estate Transactions in the 2015 spring edition of ActionLine (Florida Bar publication for real estate attorneys); as revised and re-published in 2018 for the Attorney Real Estate Councils of Florida (ARECS). James has also lectured, and continues to participate each year, for the past several years on the distinguished panel of instructors for Florida’s Advanced Real Property Certification Review Course, providing extensive materials and presentations on the topic of business entities in real estate transactions.

James was also appointed by the Florida Board of Governors and served as a past Chairman of the Florida Joint Realtor-Attorney Committee, which authors and periodically updates the Contract Documents that are customarily used in real estate transactions throughout Florida.

James is also a Board-Certified Mediator approved by the Florida Supreme Court, has served as an Expert Witness in several high-profile matters, and is a past Chairman of the Real Estate Committee for the Dade County Bar Association. James has published many articles and lectured extensively in his areas of expertise.

James received his law degree from the University of Miami, where he was an Associate Note Editor and Published Author on the University of Miami Law Review, and he received his undergraduate degree with Majors in Accounting and Business Management, from Ithaca College, cum laude.
